Part of the Monstera genus, the Broken Heart plant or Monstera Adansonii is a beautiful plant to have in your space. Broken Heart plant is a pretty vine, having unique deep green heart-shaped leaves with holes in them. As the leaves mature or age, they develop signature holes in them giving them a distinctive & attractive feature. This process is known as fenestration. Monstera Adansonii is native to forests of Central America and South America. In their natural habitat, they grow deep in the jungle climbing on trees. Monstera Adansonii's heart-shaped leaves help in maximizing the surface area for light as they tend to receive indirect or dappled sunlight in the forests. Also, it has been stated that the holes in the leaves help them while facing heavy rains by providing water drainage. Unlike its cousin Monstera Deliciosa, Monstera Adansonii has smaller leaves and can be kept quite compact. The Broken Heart plant has deep green leaves with holes resembling Swiss cheese and is hence also known as the Swiss Cheese plant. With the smaller and petite leaves, it is quite manageable, Broken Heart can be trained to climb on a moss stick/support or trail. Monstera Adansonii is quite a low-maintenance plant and would be a long-lasting & gorgeous addition to your space.
